Opportunities Abound for Dixie Techs in September

The Dixie Techs will get a double serving of opportunity in September's Tech Friday. First, Mary Cardon from Utah's SBIR-STTR Assistance Center will speak with the Dixie Techs about the SBIR Grant process, qualifying for grants and resources available to citizens interested in applying for these Grants. There are REAL grant programs out there designed to help qualifying businesses. Is your business one of them? Come find out Friday September 10th at the Dixie Tech Friday. Dixie Techs: Our March speaker couldn’t speak on March 12 due to Spring break vacation. We decided that many of you might have the same conflict, so we’ve moved the date up to March 5. Michael Jensen, one of our most successful tech speakers, is moving back to the Northwest to be near family. We’re sure you won’t want to miss hearing from him before he moves. From finding the idea, to marketing the product, to managing growth of a company, Michael Jensen will share his own experiences and practical advice for any Entrepreneur. Annual Disvantaged Business Enterprise Training

Small businesses owned by women and minorities that provide professional services, construction and supplies related to the transportation field can apply for a free certification. This certification is called the Disadvantaged Business Enterprise (DBE) certification (49 CFR Part 26). Airport, Highway and Transit agencies across the US seek out firms certified as DBE for federally funded projects. If you are interested in learning about a free certification program that can help your small business find excellent contracting opportunities with State (UDOT), City (City of St. George, SLC Dept of Airports, Cedar City) and transit (UTA, Logan Cache Valley, Park City Corporation) please come to this workshop. $65,000 CONTEST for New Technology Innovations! The Concept to Company competitions are ongoing innovation contests held in various regions across the state of Utah. This contest focuses on new technology innovations. It is open to all Utah-based inventors or small businesses with a new technology product or service idea. Popular Prof to sell Invention PLUS Networking & Pizza Dr. James Lott, a chemistry professor whose innovation is about to hit the big time, will be the featured speaker at the Feb. 12 Dixie Tech Friday. Dr. Lott has invented a spray-on, non-toxic substance which controls dust and enables railroad cars to travel without the required tie-downs. Dr. Lott is a native Kansan who got his BA and MS degrees at Fort Hays State College before receiving a PhD in Inorganic Chemistry at the University of Idaho. After teaching college in Missouri for 31 years, he retired to southern Utah, but not for long. He soon was teaching chemistry at Dixie State College where, for another 7 years, his teaching methods helped hundreds of students decipher a difficult topic.
